One of James Bond's fellow "00" agents is killed during a training exercise in Gibraltar.  The culprit is linked to the defection of a Russian officer whom Bond helps escape through the Czech Border.  The officer, Koskov, is subsequently kidnapped from a British safe-house from under the noses of MI6.  007 heads back to Eastern Europe and locates Kara, the cellist and reluctant sniper who was trying to eliminate Koskov the night he defected.
