James Bond's career in the "00" section begins, and after a bungled mission to infiltrate a bomb-making operation, Bond is assigned to a related mission in which he must defeat private banker Le Chiffre in a high-stakes poker match in Montenegro. Le Chiffre is bankrolling the game using money which terrorists have entrusted to him, and MI6 plan to provide him with protection in exchange for valuable information after he loses his investors' cash. The plan relies on 007 defeating Le Chiffre at Casino Royale, and convincing Treasury officer Vesper Lynd to provide the stakes he needs to win. |
